Did your
family live, work, worship or do business in Rockford at
any time over the past two centuries? If so, Rockford’s
history is your history.
This
historic village, built and maintained by many wonderful
families of the past, now needs the support of today’s
generation of family members – your family – to restore
some historic treasures for future generations to enjoy.
Over the
past three decades, the Rockford Preservation Society
has obtained, through purchase or donation, six historic
properties. Three have been restored and are open to the
public. A park is being developed at a fourth site, and
two buildings are in need of immediate restoration.
Although
Rockford has many friends and supporters who have helped
the Rockford Preservation Society to restore Rockford
Methodist Church, the Dudley Glass Store/Davenport
Gallery, and the first Rockford Post Office, much
broader support is needed for the restoration of the
circa 1797 Masonic Hall, the circa 1830 York Tavern, and
the circa 1796 Grant-Burrus Hotel Site park.
No one has
more reason to ensure the full restoration of these
sites than those of us whose ancestors were a part of
this picturesque village on the Yadkin River. Because
when we remember Rockford, we are remembering our own
families!
